Blending NO. 160 - Honeymoon: One Scent, Many Expressions

An unashamedly romantic fragrance oil, NO. 160 blends light floral accords with sunny citrus that feel like the early sunrise peeking through vintage lace. Delightful for spring and summer fragrancing, No. 160 is perfect for creating bespoke diffuser blends, massage oils, wax melts, and even tumble dryer sheets. Before we get to blending techniques, let’s find out a little bit more about it.

Scent Profile

NO. 160 opens with a radiant burst of Pink Grapefruit and sunny Lemons, to create a fresh and luminous citrus sparkle. Green leaves add aromatic uplift, and Apricot softens with its fruity, floral air. A cool morning in a citrus orchard, as the breezes rustle through aromatic leaves. Rose petals and juicy strawberries are infused with effervescent Champagne, and served with rich golden almonds and vanilla soaked in brandy and amber.

Why Choose NO? 160 - Honeymoon?

Honeymoon

We think it is:

  • Elegant
  • Airy & Light
  • Radiant
  • Creamy
  • Sheer & Subtle
  • Delicate
  • Sun-warmed
  • Luminous
  • Romantic

Tailored for romantics and for people who like their scents discreet, intimate, and skin close.

How To Blend NO. 160 - Honeymoon

I would describe the character of No 160. Honeymoon as

  • Intimate
  • Airy
  • Transparent
  • Soft
  • Sheer
  • Intimate
  • Gentle
  • Light
  • Unassuming

It would be easy to overwhelm this light and subtle fragrance with stronger aromas.

Taking this into account, it makes sense to focus on enhancing (or balancing) what is already in the scent profile.

These are my top blending tips for NO. 160:

    • Maintain the idea of sunwarmed and solar accords to create radiance and luminosity.
    • Build upon fragrances already in the accord. You might strengthen the Rose, for example,  or perhaps add a touch more Apricot or Grapefruit or Apricot into the mix.
    • Similarly, you might want to ramp up the creamy or powdery aspects of the Vanilla or Amber notes.
    • Add textural balance with sharper notes, like Lime, Lemon, and white Grapefruit.
    • Consider adding clarifying green leaves and even aromatic pine notes to uplift and elevate the scent profile.

Diffuser Blend Recipes

As I write this,  Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. These diffuser blends would work for simple springtime dining rooms to the most romantic dinner. That would suit both Valentine’s Day celebrations and cater to your spring dining room scents.

Each recipe blend makes 5ml, so you need a 5ml dark glass bottle with a dropper insert, a funnel, and an oil and waterproof label. Simply blend your oils, decant, and label clearly.

Diffuser Blends fall under IFRA Category 12, which, for the most part, has no restrictions, but if you decide to design your own blends, just take care to check each new oil you introduce, just to be doubly safe.

Finally, know that VINEVIDA’s Diffuser fragrance oils are designed for Cold Air Diffusers and nebulisers. For water-based diffusers and for aromatherapy and candle evaporators, please choose Soaps & Candles fragrance oils. If in doubt, check your manufacturer's instructions or check here: How To Use Vinevida Oils.

Love Is In The Air

Love Is In The Air

Blend NO.160 - Honeymoon into the most blowsy, romantic offering by enhancing the heartspace florals. It is Valentine’s Day, so we have to add a bouquet of freshly cut Roses and, for a little bit of intoxicating headiness, a tendril of Honeysuckle and Jasmin.

0.5 ml is roughly equivalent to 10 drops, depending on your oil's viscosity.

Dinner For Two

Dinner For Two

This is wonderfully romantic and perfect for a dinner for two. It won’t overwhelm the aroma of the food on the table either! Again, I have chosen to enhance the Rose accords, but this time they are soft, powdery, and discreet. I wanted to enhance the intimacy, sensuality, and depth of the blend by adding NO. 170 - Smoky Sandalwood.

Curl Up On The Sofa

This is one of those versatile spring living room scents that will be perfect for Valentine's Day, but also way beyond. Deepened with those soft, creamy, and diffusive accords, it is wonderfully sensual and intimate. Making it ideal for a romantic night in, curling up on the sofa together.

Spring Celebrations

Spring Celebrations

This is a blend that goes the opposite way, lifting it and making it brighter, more luminous, and sharper. It’s the perfect blend for celebrating the return of the sun and seeing new life popping up all around us. This delightful blend will see you all through the early spring season and makes a perfect addition to your spring living room scents.

Spring Picnic

Spring Picnic

One of the best things about those first warming rays of sun, which are so precious in early spring, is the chance to have that first Spring picnic. Sitting over a mossy, fallen wooden bole, sandwich in hand, the warm sun on your face, and breathing deep of pure, fresh air. Utter perfection.

However, here in the UK, it is rarely like that at this time of the year. Indeed, it is actually snowing as I type! Mercifully, this stunning blend can effortlessly ‘bring the outside in’ and be happily added to your spring dining room scents too!

Why not have fun creating your own diffuser blends using the tips given above and the fragrance oil suggestions given at the end?

Rose and Champagne Light Body Lotion

Rose and Champagne Light Body Lotion

I will let you into a secret… come closer… sssh… don’t tell everyone!

When I was writing the description for NO. 3704 - Inspired by: Champagne (Women) by Yves Saint Laurent, I noticed that the paper scent stick I used that day continued to fragrance the sitting room …. For three whole days!

It has an exceptionally bold and long-lasting aroma, making it perfect for very light lotions that generally don’t have much oil content. The oil helps to hold the scent on the skin, so the scent in very light lotions doesn't tend to last long, unless you can find an ultra-long-lasting scent, like this! Paired with the Champagne notes of NO. 160, these two fragrances are a marriage made in heaven.

Now, you can either use 100ml of unscented body lotion, or you can follow this Body Lotion recipe. Simply mix everything together thoroughly and decant into a 100ml bottle, clearly labelling the bottle with the ingredients.

IFRA - Body care products appear in category 5A and NO. 160 carries a maximum dilution rate of 14.54% and NO. 3704 is 1.96%

Safety: Avoid intimate areas.

This simple room spray will enable you to spritz your way to an alluring and romantic ambience in just a few seconds.

Find the full Room Spray Base recipe and instructions in Your Guide to Room Spray with Fragrance Oils and read through to see why you should skip neither the preservative nor the dispersant for the best results! Follow the recipe ratios precisely, please, because the ratios matter. IFRA - Room Sprays appear in category 10B and NO. 160 carries a maximum dilution rate of 19.23% and NO. 134 is 60.00%

Into 120ml of Room Spray Base, add the following:

Safety: Do not spray towards the face. Do not spray near pets, their bedding, or where they rest and sleep.

Wax Melts

Wax Melts

I wanted to cover this because of the delicate nature of balancing and blending NO. 160 - Honeymoon. We already know that it has a light, subtle, and airy aroma. Therefore, when we make scented candles and wax melts, it makes sense to use more fragrance oil than we usually might.

Creative Uses of Fragrance Oils for Wax Melts will tell you that the maximum ratio of oil to wax we can use is around 10%. Anything more than that, the fragrance oil may start affecting the structure of your wax. I recommend you start with 7% in a small test batch first and see what the scent throw is like. If you think you need more, add the full 10%, but no more.

If you feel it needs ‘something’ - see my blend below.

IFRA  - Candles and Wax Melts fall under Category 12, where NO. 133, 160, and 1408 carry no restrictions.

This delightfully floral 10ml blend is the perfect addition to your spring living room scents and wax melt aromas. Use the instructions given in this Wax Melt Recipe

To at least 100g of soy wax add:

Tumble Dryer Sheets

Tumble Dryer Sheets

I love the sheer simplicity of this, and I make these over and over again, changing out the scents to suit my mood.  It is a romantic aroma for scenting your bedlinen for an intimate night at home.

Don’t panic when you see white vinegar. The vinegar smell totally disappears in the drying process; you won’t have clothes or bedding smelling of vinegar, I promise.

NO 160 in IFRA category 12 has no safety dilution restrictions, but don’t go mad, eh?

To a large glass jar, add:

Shake the mix well and then simply add lightweight cloth squares to the jar, making sure that the cloths soak up the mixture. Continue adding cloth squares until the jar is full of mildly damp cloths, as opposed to ones that are soaking wet.

You may add more fragrance oil if you wish, but do a test run with a couple of sheets through the dryer first before doing so. Always label the jar accurately and clearly with all ingredients.

Safety:

Avoid using them with particularly delicate clothes or fabrics like silk.

Keep out of reach of pets and children.

Blending No. 160 With Other Exciting Vinevida Fragrance Oils

Because of the subtlety of blending with NO. 160, simply focusing on enhancing other aromas within the scent profile can be extremely versatile and successful. Let’s remind ourselves of those fragrance notes:

Top:  Apricot, Green Leaves, Lemon, Pink Grapefruit

Mid: Almond, Champagne, Rose, Strawberry

Bottom: Amber, Brandy, Vanilla

Here are some final suggestions for you to explore for your own blends.

Add Fruitiness With Strawberry Notes

Add Fruitiness With Strawberry Notes

Add bright, mouthwatering fruity notes to the blend by enhancing the strawberry aromas.

Add Creamy Nuttiness with Almonds

Add Creamy Nuttiness with Almonds

Almonds bring that delicious soft creaminess that is so attractive and alluring in this scent profile. It makes sense to add a little more of that in, but be mindful to keep it balanced. Try not to stray too far from the original scent profile. You can do this by searching for other fragrance oils that share two or three other fragrance notes, like Rose, Vanilla, or Amber.

It’s All Coming Up Roses

It’s All Coming Up Roses

Enhance the Rose aroma and build into the florality of the heartspace. NO. 33 and 1822 would always be my first go-to choices. I also really like the dark, fruity, floral depth of NO. 1201 as a more sensuous blending partner.

Raise a Glasstoo Brandy & Friends

Those Champagne and Brandy notes can be enhanced by adding in other subtle alcohol based accords to add luxuriousness and a little more depth and texture to the overall scent profile.

Blending NO. 160 - Honeymoon has been an absolute joy for me. I’m certainly all ready for my Valentine’s Day scentscaping, and I shall be making the most of my blends using them right through early spring and beyond. Why not fall in love with blending NO? 160 - Honeymoon today?
