Essential Oils To Create a Sensuous Mood and Enhance Relaxation

Essential oils such as Lavender, Ylang Ylang, and Jasmine absolute are perfect for creating a sensuous, relaxing atmosphere.

Lavender essential oil is known to produce calming and sedative properties that can help to promote stress relief and relaxation. Ylang Ylang essential oil creates a deeply romantic atmosphere, while its sweet aroma helps reduce anxiety and bring peace of mind. Finally, Jasmine absolute can also bring a sense of peace while also having an uplifting effect on the mind, body, and soul - making it an essential oil essential for any special occasion.

Let us have a closer look at these sensuous essential oils and why they make the perfect choice for your Valentine’s Day experience.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender essential oil is popularly known for its relaxing, calming and soothing effects. It is an essential component of aromatherapy due to its delicate floral notes, which make it perfect for creating a sensuous atmosphere. Not only can it evoke the senses, research has shown that lavender essential oil can reduce stress levels.

Lavender essential oil has been found to increase calmness by reducing cortisol levels in the body when inhaled, making it ideal for aiding relaxation and reducing anxiety. This relaxation can be key if either you or your partner are feeling a bit nervous or the pressure of such a momentous day.

Lavender essential oil can be used alone or mixed with other essential oils to create a perfect blend to promote inner peace and emotional wellbeing. With its many therapeutic benefits, lavender essential oil is easily one of the best essential oils to help create a more sensuous environment and experience.

Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

Ylang Ylang essential oil has long been known as an essential oil that is perfect for promoting and enhancing a sensuous experience. Its light, floral aroma helps to naturally relax the body and mind. This in turn creates a calm, aphrodisiac atmosphere.

Numerous studies have shown that essential oils such as lavender have calming properties and Ylang Ylang essential oil takes it one step further with its delicate, seductive aroma. Additionally, studies have also found that essential oils such as Ylang Ylang essential oil are effective natural anti-depressants. This can help by bringing about a feeling of optimism to create an even more romantic setting.

Altogether, these scientific studies demonstrate why essential oils like Ylang Ylang essential oil offer an ideal choice of aphrodisiac essential oil for those looking to enjoy an intimate, exotic experience.

Jasmine Absolute

Jasmine absolute is renowned for its calming and seductive fragrance, making it the perfect essential oil choice to create a sensuous atmosphere.

All essential oils have therapeutic properties due to their chemical composition, however Jasmine absolute takes things one step further with its special chemical content, which generates powerful uplifting effects.

This essential oil has been used for centuries as an aphrodisiac and makes for an excellent massage blend when combined with other essential oils. Scientific evidence suggests that it can stimulate the release of serotonin and dopamine in the body – both hormones that are associated with feeling relaxed and aroused.

A relaxing experience can be created by just adding 5-6 drops of Jasmine absolute to your diffuser or dilute it in a carrier oil for a massage.

Ways to Use These Sensuous Essential Oils On Valentine’s Day

These essential oils can be easily combined with others to create a romantic and aromatic backdrop to your intimate experience. Here are a few ideas:

Aromatherapy Mist or Room Spray is super simple and one that can be used in setting the mood as soon as your loved one walks through the door. Use this to create that scented veil that says right away -'I'm in the mood for love’.

You can use it to scent each room and even use it well beforehand to scent your bed sheets, but do give them time to dry please. One of the easiest ways to set the scene.

Check out our blog article How to Make Essential Oil Room Spray.

Scented Candles or Diffusers are the next way to add layers of wonderful aromas. You could have something a bit more enlivening and racy in the sitting room or dining room, if you are wooing him with food first. Then, a diffuser blend or scented candle with a more soothing and sensuous blend in the bedroom, to encourage that relaxation and intimacy.

Massage oil with essential oils is the perfect way to use both scent and touch to enhance that sacred intimacy between you, using the properties of the essential oils themselves to stimulate your partner with their aphrodisiac effects.

Intimate oil is something to also have on hand, not all essential oils are suitable for your most intimate body parts. We strongly recommend keeping a plain carrier oil like Jojoba or Coconut MCT without essential oils and using that for your more intimate massages.

It should also be noted that some essential oils can affect prophylactics like condoms, so exercise extra caution if you are using those on this most sensuous of nights.

The Benefits of Using This Sensuous Valentine’s Day Kit With Essential Oils

Setting the scene with scent is a way to encourage that relaxation and one of the ways you can do this is with an aromatherapy mist or room spray.

Using Sensual Scents and Touch to Enhancing Intimacy

Valentine's Day is a special holiday that celebrates love and togetherness. To add to the romantic atmosphere between two partners, essential oils can be used to enhance intimacy through sensuous scent and touch.

Intimacy does not just have to be about sexual touching; it is much deeper than just that. It is thought that emotional or sensual touching can potentially stimulate neurotransmitters in the brain, to release hormones like oxytocin, dopamine, and serotonin.

Oxytocin is also referred to as the love hormone, see what Harvard has to say about it here.

The release of these feel-good hormones is known to reduce stress. Where there is a lack of physical intimacy and touching this could potentially lead to increased loneliness or sadness. Therefore, it is an important part of our daily lives that we sometimes take for granted.

With their sweet and exotic aromas, these essential oils can set the fragrant backdrop for a romantic and sensuous evening. Not only do the amazing scents add to an enjoyable intimate experience, but rubbing essential oil blends onto the skin or taking part in a couples massage with essential oils can create extra closeness and enhance intimacy between partners.

Enhancing those precious intimate moments with essential oils is an easy way to add new heights of romance and pleasure on Valentine's Day and facilitates the release of all those wonderful feel good hormones to lay back and bask in.

Don’t Be Too Quick To Have a Wash

We live in a world surrounded by advertising that tells us that any vague whiff of anything natural should be strangled and snuffed out with synthetic fragrance and doused in something chemical!

Your natural body odor (not as far as BO people) is actually a very important ‘tool’ in your love making. Women tend to respond to a man's body odor more during sexual arousal. But that natural body odor can actually enhance the sexual desire you feel for one another and deepen your sexual satisfaction.

So don’t be too quick to jump in the shower and wash it all off. Why not swap things up and try it out for once?

An Enlivening & Sensuous Aromatherapy Room Spray/Mist
Equipment Ingredients
  • Large Measuring Jug
  • Small Measuring Jug
  • Large Bowl
  • Funnel
  • Stainless Steel Spoon or Stirrer
  • Pump Spray Bottle - ideally Dark Amber Glass
  • Label with all ingredients listed.
  • Purified or Distilled Water
  • Vodka or Alcohol
  • Polysorbate 20 or 80 or Witch Hazel as an alternative.
  • Rose Water or other Hydrosols
Essential Oils
30 drops Lavender Essential Oil (Lavandula angustifolia) 50 drops Sweet Orange Essential Oil (Citrus sinensis L) 20 drops Neroli Essential Oil (Citrus aurantium) 20 drops Ylang Ylang Essential Oil (Cananga odorata)
Safety:
  • Not for Topical Application
  • Ylang Ylang specific - Not suitable for use topically in the first 37 weeks of pregnancy.
Notes:
  • Just a few little notes before we get started:
  • If you wish to add hydrosols like Rose Water - replace the volume with the amount needed for distilled water.
  • You can use Witch Hazel instead of a solubilizer like Polysorbate 20 or 80, but you need more.
  • Polysorbate 20 or 80, which is best? The Polysorbate 20 is better suited to this project, but 80 would work just as well if that is what you have to hand in. Always follow the manufacturer's guidelines…. significantly if they differ from what is written here. Follow the guidelines for your manufacturer because they do differ.
  • Right, let's get stuck in; here we go!
Method:
  1. To make 500ml - 17 fl oz of room spray with essential oils
  2. It is optional to add Rose Water or a Hydrosol - but do it at this point. Remember to reduce the amount of distilled water, though. (For example, if you want to use 100ml of hydrosol, only use 150ml of Distilled Water to make up the 250ml volume needed).
  3. If you are not using hydrosols, measure out 250ml or 8.45floz of Distilled Water - carefully pour it into the bowl.
  4. Measure out 200ml or 6.7 fl oz of Vodka and pour it into the bowl with the water
  5. Drop all your essential oils into the small measuring jug. Note the final volume of the essential oil. You need the same volume of essential oils as Polysorbate. (Say you have 5ml of essential oils. You will need 5ml of Polysorbate).
  6. Add the same volume of your Polysorbate 20 or 80 and mix carefully into your essential oils.
  7. Not using Polysorbate? That's ok - combine your volume of essential oils with four times the volume of Witch Hazel. (So if you have 5ml of essential oils, you will need 4 x 5ml = 20ml of Witch Hazel). Stir to mix thoroughly.
  8. Add into the large bowl and very gently stir to combine well.
  9. Using a funnel, decant into your Dark Amber Glass Bottle.
  10. Depending on if you used Polysorbate or Witch Hazel, this is the point where you may need to top your Bottle up with Distilled Water. Remember, the pump straw takes up some of the volumes, so fill it in a manageable amount, or it will simply overflow.
  11. Lid tightly and store in a dark, cool place at a consistent and ambient temperature.
  12. Label, writing down ALL ingredients used.
  13. Remember to prime your pump ready - give it a few pumps until it starts to spray.
  14. Now you are ready to fill your home with sensuous fragrance!

Safety Considerations

First and foremost, none of these blends should be used if you are in the first 37 weeks of pregnancy.

While essential oils are fantastic for our skin, some of them can irritate our mucous membranes and our genitalia have those mucous producing membranes. You really do want to avoid getting essential oils on your genitalia. It can burn, trust me, I know!

If this does happen, wash the area thoroughly in clean warm water with a very gentle soap product and then use clean warm water to wash the soap away. If it is still burning, repeat the process at 10 minute intervals for at least one hour.

If the sensation does not subside, seek medical attention, taking your clearly labeled bottle with you.

Oil, including essential oils, can break down the latex in a condom so make sure that you are aware of this and take the appropriate precautions. Here is a bit about the science behind that to help you plan appropriately.

Have fun and enjoy the sensual intimacy of Valentine’s day, but above all, stay safe.

The Final Word

Set The Scene

We have learnt a lot about how we can use essential oils to relax us and set the scene for a night of sensuous fun and intimate play.

Don’t forget to set the mood using colors like red, pink and magenta, the strong saturated colors can help to ignite passion and our brains can’t help but respond to these stimulating colors.

Gold highlights help to reinforce that sense of passion, luxury and decadence.

Au Natural

Remember your natural body odor is not as nearly unattractive as the advertising world would have you believe and can be an important tool in your love making. Don’t be too quick to want to wash it away because it can enhance your sexual pleasure.

Erogenous Zones

When using the massage oil, learn where your partner's erogenous zones are, they might be different from the usual ones. Everyone has their own sensitive areas.

To get you started here is a guide based on real science to give you a body map to work with.
