Introduction to Spicy Perfume Recipes For Diffusers

Soโ€ฆ you want to know how to make spicy perfume recipes for diffusers!ย

Creating spicy perfumes can be as easy as mixing just a couple of oils together. But with a little know-how, more complex and sophisticated spicy perfume recipes can be created with just a handful of well-chosen oils.ย

Spicy perfume recipes combined with intoxicating flowers like Jasmine and Ylang Ylang create floriental fragrances. Mixing spices with woods,ย  greenery, or citrus notes inspires invigorating Chypre scents.ย ย

Whether you want Cardamomโ€™s delicious orange tones, Ginger and Cinnamonโ€™s warmth, or the rich depth of Clove, we have spicy perfume recipes for diffusers to suit everyoneโ€™s taste and palate..

Our Favourite Essential Oils For Spicy Perfume Recipes

VINEVIDA stocks some really lovely essential oils to create your own spicy perfume recipes. From the shores of southern India to the foothills of the Himalayas, we have sourced a veritable spice chest

Allspice (Pimenta Dioica)

Allspice gets its name from its scent. The warm spicy fragrance is reminiscent of other spices like Black Pepper, Cinnamon, Cloves, and Nutmeg. Allspice brings a strong warming aspect to your blends.

Star Anise (Illicium verum)

You may be familiar with this star-shaped spice if you cook Indian or Chinese food. It has a strong, complex aroma, with woody notes and even tones of Licorice. Use it to bring sweetness and earthy warmth.ย

Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum)

Cardamom will be one of the most versatile essential oils in your spicy perfume recipes because of its delicately spicy aroma. It has strong orange-like notes and is warm, invigorating, yet comforting. Use Cardamom to add vitality and energy to your diffuser blends.ย

Cassia (Cinnamomum cassia)

Cassia is a bark, that has an aroma very much like cinnamon, but it has an almost rosy undertone to it thanks to a constituent known as 2-Phenylethyl acetate. Use Cassia for a sweet and spicy rosy aroma.ย

Cinnamon Bark and Cinnamon Leaf (Cinnamomum zeylanicum)

ย Essential Oil

There are two types of Cinnamon essential oils that you can use for your spicy perfume recipes,ย  Cinnamon Bark and Cinnamon Leaf. They do smell different because one is distilled from the bark and the other from the green leaves. The warm spicy cinnamon you all know and love is Cinnamon Bark. Why not explore the greener, spice notes of the leaves too? Let Liz guide you on the Benefits of Cinnamon Leaf Vs Cinnamon Bark Essential Oil.

Clove Bud (Syzygium aromaticum)

When you want something heavy-hitting for your spicy perfume recipes this is your go-to. It gives earthiness and plenty of body to the base notes. Balance it carefully though because it can be a bit of an aromatic thug!ย  Use it sparingly to add depth and body.ย

Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare)

Technically, fennel should be classified as a herb, but I wanted to include it here for its spicy aniseed-like aroma. Use it for light, green aniseed notes.ย  Fennel should be avoided during pregnancy.

Ginger Root ( Zingiber officinale)

We have two types of Ginger on offer, fresh and dry. The fresh is refreshingly sharp and works well with citrus and green notes.ย  The dried version is softer, warmer, and gentler on the nose. Dried ginger essential oil blends well with flowers and woods.ย

Nutmeg (Myristica fragrans)

I always think this is an underrated spice and essential oil. I love its soft, sweet aroma and I think you will too in your spicy perfume recipes. It has a slightly bitter edge which is balanced perfectly with its sweet notes. Use Nutmeg to add sweet, warming earthiness to your spicy perfume recipes.

Black Pepper (Piper nigrum) and Pink Pepper (Schinus Molle)

The pepper oils are wonderful for use in your spicy perfume recipes. I love the bold spicy notes of Black Pepper in more masculine blends but I much prefer the fruit warmth of Pink Pepper blended with florals for more feminine offerings. Use Black Pepper to raise the heat and Pink Pepper for a fruity addition.ย ย

Cardamom Rich Fragrance Oils

Cardamom Rich Fragrance Oils

Cardamom-based spicy perfume recipes will prove to be some of the most versatile for creating your own bespoke diffuser blends. Itโ€™s a great choice for creating your own signature home scents too because of its light citrus tones. It blends readily with other spices and scent notes.ย

Gourmand Fragrances

Cinnamon is really popular for gourmand or food-based fragrances. It is the spice that we most often associate with sweet treats like apple crumble and cinnamon rolls. It is sweet and comforting and we can capitalize on this in our spicy perfume recipes.

Try the Apple and Cinnamon combinations of NO. 1 - Apple Cinnamon & NO. 2 - Apple Hot Baked Pie fragrance oil laced with Vanilla and Clove.ย  Youโ€™ll love the buttery and bakery notes ofย

NO. 23 - Cinnamon Roll and the Nutmeg and Clove rich NO. 40 - Gingerbread. Grab a coffee and a dash of NO. 65 - Pumpkin Spice or delve into the delights of NO. 102 - Spiced Crumble. Although I think the creamy, honeyed tea-like aroma of NO. 107 - Vanilla Chai & Honey is my personal favorite.ย

Seasonal

We have lots of seasonal fragrance oils that can be used for the base of your spicy perfume recipes but NO. 22 - Christmas Splendor is by far the best choice with its blend of Cinnamon, Cloves, and Vanilla.

Light and Bright

NO. 1018 - Inspired by: Summer Breeze & Ritz Carlton Hotel is a wonderfully light cinnamon-laced fragrance oil for your spicy perfume recipes. If you want something lighter with just a hint of Black Pepper and Cinnamon, this is the perfect combination of fresh green and oceanic notes, entwined with musky florals and woods.ย

Clove Rich Fragrance Oils

Clove Rich Fragrance Oils

Clove can be a really heady aroma in your spicy perfume recipes, so it can be wise to choose perfectly balanced fragrance oils to take all the guesswork out of the process for you. These two fragrance oils are beautifully balanced in their spicing. Try NO. 1006 - Inspired by: Desert Rose & Fairmont Hotels for Rose, Clove, and Caraway balanced with Oud and Musk.

Alternatively, try the luxurious Rose and Sandalwood notes ofย  NO. 1010 - Inspired by: Midnight In Paris & Hotel Costes. Masterfully balanced with a zing of Lemon and a dash of comforting Vanilla and Amber.ย

Smokey

You can use Clove in your spicy perfume recipes to create an illusion of smokiness, especially when paired with the earthiness of Vetiver or Patchouli. Try the sweet notes of NO. 1116 - Inspired by: Marshmallow Fireside by Bath & Body Works and the fire and flame aroma of NO. 16 - Campfire.

There is even a hint of smoke to NO. 85 - White Sage Bloom, but it is balanced with the fresh and invigorating aromas of Camphor, Lavender, Rosemary, and Sage for an altogether more refreshing smokiness for your spicy perfume recipes.ย ย

Ginger Rich Fragrance Oils

Ginger Rich Fragrance Oils

Ginger is one of the most popular spice oils used in commercial perfumery. Ginger Lily is a universally sought aroma that has been capitalized upon by theย NO. 1027 - Inspired by: Langham Hotel London and NO. 1007 - Inspired by: Dream On & Westin Hotels which has a dash of White Tea to uplift the aroma.ย

Build on the Tea-like aromas with Ginger with NO. 110 - Green Tea & Vetiver. It has citrus notes of Mandarin and Bergamot, melded with Ginger and Green Tea.

Ginger works wonderfully with citrus notes, especially lemon and lemongrass. Try it in NO. 1405 - Inspired by: Lemongrass & Ginger by Nest with green notes of Eucalyptus, Lemongrass, Thyme, and Sage, but balanced with warming Ginger and Cedarwood. NO. 1028 - Inspired by: Nobu Hotel Las Vegas pairs Ginger with top notes of Lemon and base notes of Vetiver for a bright but warm and earthy aroma.ย

Nutmeg Rich Fragrance Oils

Nutmeg Rich Fragrance Oils

I love how different all these Nutmeg fragrance oils are. We have the sweet gourmand aroma of NO. 106 - Whipped Almond. Rich and creamy with Almond, Lemon, and Orange mixed with Amaretto, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, and Vanilla.

We can go more floral with NO. 1009 - Inspired by: Allure & Meliรฃ Hotels and its notes ofย  Bergamot, Rose, and Jasmine, perfectly balanced with Amber, Musk, and divine Guaiac wood.

I just LOVE the juxtaposition of this fragrance oil, itโ€™s masterfully balanced. Give NO. 1202 - Inspired by: Eau de Minthรฉ by Diptyque a chance to amaze you with its green minty top notes, floral and spicy heart, and earthy Patchouli finish.ย

How To Make Spicy Perfume Recipes For Diffusers With Essential Oils

It is so easy to make your spicy perfume recipes, that you will wonder why you have never done it before!

However, there are a couple of things we need to check before we begin blending these delicious spicy aromatics.ย

Have Got The Right Type Of Oil?

Before we go any further with our spicy perfume recipes, you need to make sure you are using the right type of fragrance oil for your individual diffusers. I donโ€™t know if you have noticed, but VINEVIDA stocks two variations of every fragrance oil.

  1. Diffuser fragrance oil is only for use in nebulizing or cold air diffusers

  2. Soaps & Candles fragrance oil is suitable for most aromatherapy diffusers. As well as making soaps, candles, skin and beauty care, and scented home products.ย

Donโ€™t forget you can combine both of these types of fragrance oils with essential oils too, to give you an even wider range of spicy notes.ย

Get To Know Your Diffuser

You all have different diffusers and I canโ€™t advise you all individually. My advice is to go back to your manufacturer's instructions and follow their recommendations.ย  This includes whether you should dilute your spicy perfume recipes for diffuser blends, or not.

If in doubt, check your instructions out!ย

Thrown your instructions away? Read How To Use Vinevida Oils for some extra guidance.ย

For making 10ml blends

  2. Small bottle funnel

  3. Stainless steel spoon

  4. A selection of 10ml dropper bottles - you may wish to make more than one.ย

  5. Oil and waterproof labels

Method

  1. Simply measure out all of your fragrance oils and/or essential oils into the measuring cup/ jug.

  2. Give it a really good stir to combine thoroughly.

  3. Use a small bottle funnel, it will help to keep your bottle clean and oil-free, which helps your safety label stick better.

  4. Decant the spicy perfume recipes diffuser blend into a 10ml dropper bottle.

  5. List all of the ingredients onto an oil and waterproof label, and add the safety warning that it contains โ€˜UNDILUTED OILSโ€™.

How To Use

  • Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for your individual diffuser.ย ย
