Shimmering Dry Body Oil

Shimmering Dry Body Oil

After a day in the sun, even if it is just in the yard, your skin will benefit from the nourishing carrier oils in this Dry Body Oil. Add a touch of shimmer with a golden mica powder to give your skin the perfect afterglow.  Laced with NO.1018, the oil will smell incredible. However, we can enhance it by adding the luscious, earthy scent of Patchouli essential oil. It is well utilised by aromatherapists for its skin-soothing constituents.

IFRA Safety Guidelines:

This recipe falls under IFRA Categories 5A (Body creams, oils, lotions of all types). Here are the maximum permitted usage rates:

    • NO. 1018: up to 4.33%

For safety and balance, for adults, we recommend a 3% dilution rate for the fragrance oil and essential oil in this project.

You Will Need:

    1. Small measuring jug

    2. Stainless steel spoon

    3. Bottle funnel

    4. 100ml bottle

    5. Oil and waterproof label

Ingredients:

Optional - A natural preservative of your choice - follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Safety:

    • Do not use it in the first 16 weeks of pregnancy

Method:

    1. Mica powders can vary between suppliers, so the first thing to do is to get some spare carrier oil, or even cooking oil, and test it with a dash of mica powder. You want to see how much mica you need to get an appropriate level of shimmer. If you test it in 10ml of oil, you simply have to multiply the final amounts by 10 to be enough for 100ml. Get that right first to avoid ending up looking like the Tin Man.

    2. Combine your carrier oils and mix well.

    3. Add in your mica powder and test it out before you add your fragrance oil and essential oil.

    4. Once the shimmer level is right, add the NO. 1018 fragrance oil and Patchouli essential oil, and combine thoroughly for a couple of minutes.

    5. Use a funnel to help keep your bottle clean and oil-free, and decant the oils into your bottle.

    6. List all of the ingredients and safety information on an oil and waterproof label. Add a production date and a 3-6 month expiry date.

How To Use:

    1. Always make sure you do a 24-48 hour patch test, please.

    2. Dispense a few drops into the palm of your hand and warm the oils up slightly. Then apply in long upward strokes to your arms, shoulders, and legs.

    3. It is ok to use this very sparingly on your face as a serum, too.

    4. Suitable for daily use.

    5. Store in a cool, dark, ambient spot.

Oat & Sea Salt Soak

Oat & Sea Salt Soak

If you have had one of those long, stressful days where a tropical beach feels like a million miles away, treat yourself to a long soak in the bath with this little beauty. Simply whip up a quick batch as and when you need it. NO. 1018 brings its summer energy and elegance, and the essential oils will help you unwind, relax, and drift away in your mind to that perfect tropical hideaway. The oats will help soothe and hydrate your skin, leaving it feeling revitalized, soft, and smooth.

TOP TIP: If you cannot get Colloidal Oatmeal, use rolled oats ground to a fine powder in the food processor. However, do not mix it in with the salts, tie it in a square of muslin or an old sock, and put it in the bath separately. This eliminates the likelihood of it blocking your plumbing!

Be sure to squeeze the water through the oats to release the nourishing oat milk. It gets to a point where it is almost sticky and slimy, which is the perfect point for it to release its mucilage, which is wonderful for your skin. I put mine in an old sock and just rub it across my skin for extra skin soothing loveliness and to get the best from the mucilage.

IFRA Safety Guidelines:

This recipe falls under IFRA Categories 9 (Soaps & Bath Products). Here are the maximum permitted usage rates:

    • NO. 1018: up to 3.8%

For safety and balance, we recommend a 2% dilution rate for this fragrance oil in this project.

You Will Need:

Ingredients:

Dry Ingredients
    • ½ cup of Sea Salt (Sodium chloride)
    • ½ cup of Epsom Salts (Magnesium Sulfate)
    • ½ cup of Magnesium flakes (Magnesium Chloride)
    • ½ cup of finely ground Colloidal Oatmeal (Avena sativa kernel extract (Oat)
Wet Ingredients

Safety:

    • Do not use it in the first 16 weeks of pregnancy
    • The bath may become oily and slippery because of the oil content, so use a non-slip bath mat and take extra caution getting in and out of the bath.

Method:

A note before we begin:

Now you can make this one of two ways.

    1. You can mix it all as and when you need it.

    2. Or, you can mix the dry ingredients and store them separately from the wet ingredients and simply combine them when you want a bath.

If you make it up and leave it, two things will happen: the magnesium flakes will turn fluid, and the oatmeal will go moldy, which we want to avoid. So make as you need it, or make up a big batch and store the wet and dry ingredients separately. There is no need to mix them; simply add both to the bath.

    1. Combine the carrier oil, NO. 1018 fragrance oil and essential oils together and mix thoroughly. To store separately, decant into a bottle using a funnel and label clearly, listing all ingredients.

    2. Combine all of the dry ingredients together in a bowl and either decant into a large jar to store or add the carrier oil mix and use in the bath immediately. Don’t let it sit for more than an hour mixed.

How To Use:

    1. Always mix a little beforehand and do a 24-48 patch test with it to save any last-minute regrets!

    2. Add the ingredients to warm, running bath water and give the bath water a good swish to evenly distribute the ingredients.

    3. Lie back and enjoy the feeling of being transported to a tropical beach!

    4. Take care getting out of the bath because of the oil; use a non-slip mat.

Sunshine Room Spray

Sunshine Room Spray

I woke up this morning to a gray day and rain, and after wall-to-wall sunshine… It was a bit too much. (Despite being overjoyed for the garden, which is in desperate need of rain). I grabbed my gorgeous Sunshine Room Spray, brimming with NO. 1018 and NO. 3109 and filled the house with gorgeous scents that transported me right back to the sunshine! Why don’t you try filling your home with the scent of sunshine, too? I’ve mixed NO. 1018 with the glorious aroma of NO. 3109 - Inspired by: Fleur de Portofino by Tom Ford, which is bursting with Citrus notes, Orange Leaf. Soft florals like Lilac and Violet

Orange Blossom, Roses, and Osmanthus bloom in the heartspace and drip with honey. Perfectly complementing the fresh, top notes, and soft floral heart notes of NO. 1018. Complex base notes add textural interest and dimension for a sparkling and revitalizing aroma.

Making room sprays is so easy to do at home, but the secret is not to skip the dispersant or the preservative, giving you the best results possible. I think you are going to love this!

IFRA Safety Guidelines:

This recipe falls under IFRA Categories 10B (Air Freshener Sprays). Here are the maximum permitted usage rates:

    • NO. 1018: up to 24.01%

    • NO. 3109: up to 66.51%

For safety and balance, we recommend up to a 10% dilution rate for each fragrance oil in this project.

You Will Need:

    1. Measuring jug

    2. Stainless steel spoon

    3. Bottle funnel

    4. 120ml spray bottle

    5. Oil and waterproof label

Ingredients:

Safety:

This is not designed for topical use on the skin.

Do not spray on the face or near the eyes. If some gets in your eyes, rinse with clean, tepid water. If irritation persists, seek medical attention immediately, taking the clearly labeled container with you.

Method:

    1. Into a measuring jug, measure out your Distilled Water.

    2. Add the Polysorbate 20 and the Preservative.

    3. Add your NO. 1018 and NO. 3109 Soaps & Candles fragrance oils.

    4. Mix thoroughly until everything is completely combined.

    5. Check the fragrance level by giving it a quick spray and assessing the aroma.

    6. Add more fragrance if needed. I suggest 10% is more than enough for these particular fragrance oils.

    7. Check that the fragrance oils have fully dispersed. If oils remain floating on top, add a bit more dispersant/Polysorbate 20, mix, and check again. Continue in this way until no oil floats on the surface.

    8. Using a funnel and decanting into the spray bottle, keeping the bottle clean and oil-free, will help your label stick better. Add the spray nozzle and cap tightly.

    9. Add your oil and waterproof label, listing all of the ingredients and safety information

    10. Add a production date and a 12-month expiry date.

    11. Add instructions to shake well and not spray near the face and eyes.

How To Use:

    1. Sunshine Room Spray is NOT designed for topical use on the skin. If you want to make Body Spray, go here.

    2. Shake well before use to ensure all oils are dispersed.

    3. Never spray your Sunshine Room Spray towards the face. Check which way the nozzle is facing before you spray.

    4. Before you use it in your home, test your Sunshine Spray on an inconspicuous spot on soft furnishings to make sure it will not affect them adversely.

    5. Do not spray it towards pets or animals, and do not spray the areas where they rest or sleep. Allow them the opportunity to leave the room/house, as their sense of smell is much more sensitive than ours.
