Scent Profile
Traditionally Japanese tea ceremonies are held in masterfully designed zen gardens. They are the ultimate expression of quiet, soulful reflection. NO. 1308 invites you to that place of tranquility and peace.
Tangy bitter orange weaves through the sweet, grass-like aroma of matcha tea. The earthy accords meld seamlessly with vetiver notes, fresh florals, and the fruitiness of ripe figs. Finally, rich woody notes of Cedar unfurl in a majestic finish to the profile.
Center yourself with this sweet, green, and earthy aromatic delight.
Handle With Care
The original intention of the perfumer was to create a subtle and intimate perfume.
But that presents the perfumer with a paradox because if an aroma is designed to be admired only at close quarters, how do we adapt that to fill our homes with scent?
The answer to that is careful. Very carefully indeed..
Understanding how scent profiles are constructed can help.
Going Back To The Origins Of The Scent…
To understand the origins and construction of a perfume's scent, breaking it down into the main aromatic components can help. This will show how they contribute to the final scent and the enigmatic effects that blending them will have.
This also helps us define what forms the heart of the perfume, how ethereal the top notes are, or how resounding the base notes might be.
Main Aromatic Components Of The Original Perfume
Perfumes are constructed from a range of naturally derived and synthetic aromatic components.
NOTE: While these aromatic components are found in the original perfume, they may or may not appear in the NO. 1308 fragrance oil.
Citral
Citral is often used to bolster lemon scents as it has a very strong lemon (citrus) aroma.
Citronellol, just by the name you might expect this to be citrus but actually it has more of a rose-like aroma with fresh citrus undertones.
Eugenol
Eugenol has a distinctly clove-like scent, which is pleasantly spicy and warming
Farnesol
Farnesol has a deliciously sweet, yet floral odor and brings floral heart notes.
Geraniol
Geraniol is widely used for its floral, rose-like odor which is sweet and has delicate wisps of citrus
Limonene
Limonene is employed for its fresh and appealing lemon-orange accords. Bringing an extra burst of citrus notes.
Linalool
Finally, we have the more complex aromatics of Linalool. Despite its complexity, it still retains a light, sweet citrus aroma with a slightly spicy tropical flower accord.
We Can Deduce
From this, even without knowing the additional fragrance notes, we can deduce we have an uplifting citrus introduction with a sweet floral heart and spicy base.
Add what we know about the fragrance notes and we can see that we have citrus top notes with green accords. These are ethereal, making a refreshing first impression but disappear quickly to reveal sweet, powdery, and floral heart notes. These heart notes are also laced with fruity accords which fill out the space and add depth and dimension to the aroma as it dries down. Finally, the base notes meld together earthy, spicy, and woody accords for an intimate finish.
It all sounds rather luscious, doesn’t it?
That’s because it is.
Blending No. 1308
Top Notes
The citrus top notes are designed for a very strong first impact, but like any citrus accord, they will dissipate fast. If you want to maintain this freshness and for it to last longer, add additional citrus aromas and accords to elongate this experience.
However, do it so as not to overpower the delicate florals of the heart space. Stick to citrus aromas like Bergamot, Mandarin, and Tangerine, and maybe even a dash of Yuzu. If you want to highlight those green aromas even more, choose Lemongrass, Lime, Litsea Cubeba, or Citronella.
Heart Notes
The delicate, sweetly floral heartspace gives a lovely powdery effect. You could try green herbs to infuse the heart and complement the florals. Try Clary Sage or a dash of Rosemary.
I’d plump for Rose Geranium, a dash of Lavender, or even a couple of drops of Helichrysum. For more mystery and to add to the powdery effects, add the green-toned florals of Violet Leaf.
You won’t want to crush this with heady, intoxicating florals. Stay away from Jasmine, and if you must go with the orange tones of Neroli, keep them super light.
Base Notes
The spicy clove-like aroma of Eugenol melds beautifully with the Vetiver and Cedarwood. I’d suggest you leave this as is, but if you must add more depth and dimension, stick with earthy, woody aromas like Patchouli and even Amyris.
In summary, for filling your home with glorious fragrance, blend NO. 1308 to elongate the citrus notes, preserve the soft powdery floral heart notes, and maintain the balance of the earthy and woody base notes.
Creating Diffuser Blends With NO. 1308
Before we start, you need to make sure you have the right variation of VINEVIDA fragrance oil and you know how to use it safely.
Got The Right Variation Of Fragrance Oil?
Most aroma diffusers and candle burners can use the Soaps & Candles fragrance oils, but check your individual manufacturer's guidance before doing so. However, our soap and candle fragrance oils are not suitable for cold air or nebulizing diffusers. For these opt for the DIFFUSER variations of our fragrance oils.
When it comes to the need for diluting your diffuser blends or not, again check the individual manufacturer's guidance for your own diffusers for their specialist advice.
