Clary Sage Essential Oil Product Details

Clary sage, or Salvia sclarea, is originally native to the Northern Mediterranean, Central Asia, and Northern Africa. Though belonging to the genus Salvia, clary sage belongs to the Lamiaceae family, better known as the mint family. It is most famous for its use as a cooking herb—sage—but its oil is becoming increasingly more popular. You can find clary sage essential oil in perfume, certain alcoholic beverages, and aromatherapy practice. Clary sage is also sometimes referred to as “clear eye”, due to its former use in eye treatment. The seeds have a gluey type of coating on them, and historically it was believed that if they put a seed in someone's eye it would adhere to whatever was causing the person discomfort and make it easier to dislodge. In this article, we will look at the components and the potential health benefits of clary sage essential oil when used in the practice of aromatherapy.

Clary Sage Essential Oil Benefits: Component Breakdown

  • Linalool: Linalool is a terpene alcohol organic to many flowers and plants. Its aroma is floral and spicy, and it’s even a common component in beer! You will also find linalool in around 60-80% of hygiene products, prized for both its antifungal and fragrance properties. It is that one component that contributes a huge share to clary sage essential oil benefits.
  • a-Terpineol: Alpha-terpineol naturally occurs in plants and works as a plant metabolite. It offers a floral aroma and is a common ingredient in perfume. a-Terpineol is another component that makes sure of clary sage essential oil benefits.
  • Linalyl Acetate: The acetate ester of linalool, linalyl acetate is also a principal component in both lavender and bergamot essential oils. As you might expect, it offers a fruity, herbaceous aroma and flavor.
  • B-Caryophyllene: B-caryophyllene is also common to many plants and spices, though it is particularly prominent in clove oil. It is classified as a sesquiterpene and is an anti-inflammatory, working by activating the endocannabinoid system. It is one of the only terpenes that can do this without causing psychoactive effects, making it unique.
  • Germacrene D: Germacrene is also a sesquiterpene, with antimicrobial properties. It is insecticidal and helps to naturally protect plants from insects.

Clary Sage Essential Oil Uses: For Wholesale Purposes

Clary sage essential oil uses vary depending on whether you are choosing to use the herb itself or the oil. In this article, we will focus on the essential oil, which VV sources and distills from France.

Clary Sage Essential Oil for Hair

Using clary sage oil for hair is likely effective due to the presence of linalyl acetate. This is the same component you can find in lavender, which preliminary research indicates can help promote hair growth. Clary sage can be added to shampoos and conditioners to provide both fragrance and improve hair follicle strength. You can also create your own hair mask, adding a few drops of clary sage to an ounce of carrier oil. Massage into the scalp or apply to dry ends, let it sit for 5 minutes, then rinse and shampoo as usual.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is one of the significant from the hundreds of clary sage essential oil uses. As mentioned earlier, the potential health benefits of clary sage essential oil can be obtained via the practice of aromatherapy. While more research is necessary on the study of healing through aromatherapy, preliminary research indicates that clary sage essential oil may be an effective antidepressant. This is due in part to its ability to elicit a calming effect, reducing feelings of stress.

Clary Sage Oil for Soap Making

Clary Sage Essential Oil Soap Making

Clary sage essential oil is a favorite of many soap makers due to its unique aroma. Additionally, research indicates that clary sage contains antimicrobial properties, which make it perfect for hand soap.

Menstrual Pain

What is clary sage essential oil good for? If the rumors are true, menstrual pain! Anecdotal evidence indicates that clary sage may be effective in the relief of cramps and indigestion. To get the best effect, dilute a few drops of clary sage essential oil into an ounce of carrier oil and massage into the abdomen to help relieve pain.

Clary Sage Essential Oil Blends: Best Suitable Oils

Clary sage essential oil offers a sweet, herbaceous fragrance that blends well with oils such as lavender, bergamot, lime, patchouli, geranium, and sweet orange. For a more masculine scent, you could try blending it with rosemary and cedarwood for a spicy, woody aroma.

Precautions

Clary sage essential oil should never be ingested. There are many different types of tea that are meant for internal use, but the concentration level in oils is much higher. Ingesting clary sage oil can lead to the oil separating and causing irritation inside the body. In addition, anyone taking prescription medications or suffering from underlying conditions should confer with a doctor before incorporating essential oils into their routine. Pregnant women and small children should also avoid the use of essential oils, as there is a lack of research indicating what potential side effects may be. Clary sage in particular may affect pregnant women, as it is occasionally used by natural healers to induce contractions.

Conclusion

Clary sage essential oil benefits include reducing feelings of stress and anxiety, as well as helping to promote hair growth. Many people also claim that clary sage can effectively relieve pain from menstruation or indigestion when used topically, though more research is necessary. When it comes to clary sage essential oil uses, stick to topical and inhalation—there are teas specifically meant for internal use if you prefer this method. At VINEVIDA we offer a variety of different sizes of clary sage, from individual to bulk, all at wholesale prices!

Lovely!

I've smelled a lot of clary sage that didn't smell amazing, but this was fabulous. I'll definitely buy again.

Excellent Quality

The scent is excellent, as expected and the bottle arrived safely packaged. I usually order 1# or more at a time and other containers (stainless steel) tend to leak. Bottles don't leak unless of course they break. Whomever packaged these contents did a great job and of course I'm very happy with the Clary Sage EO.

Loving it

Have been using this oil for quiet some time now not a single day passes when I do not wake up in the morning and add it in the scent bottle and spray it around the house. Always buy the oils for a month. Makes every morning beautiful with its sweet fragrance. Highly recommended.
