Introduction to NO. 103 - Rich Mahogany

Here in the UK, the transition from January into February is the coldest and darkest time of the year. I saw the first snowdrops and newborn fluffy lambs on my travels yesterday. Both creature and flower appear pristine white against the dull, dank landscape. Those first signs of spring felt like hopeful promises of warmth and sunshine. But days like these are invariably followed by cold snaps that make you want to curl up with a blanket and a lovely hot spiced drink. Snyg moments like these just aren’t complete without a tailored blend in the diffuser!

Scent Profile

NO. 103 - Rich Mahogany warms your heart and home.  Unusually for a warming oil, its opening fragrance is delightfully fresh and playful. It feels friendly and endearing ( a bit like those newborn playful lambs!)

Crisp orchard apples, refreshing, and lavender are woven through with pink peppercorn.

Deep red mahogany brings a rich, sophisticated elegance to what would otherwise be a rather playful fragrance oil.

Some tips on how to blend No. 103 - Rich Mahogany to get the very best from your purchase. 

You can create wonderfully diverse diffuser blends, the trick is to know how to play with the balance in the notes to create complimentary accords from other fragrance oils and essential oils.

Naturally, when you use essential oils, you have the bonus that you will benefit from all their positive actions as well as their lovely fragrance.  

Let’s work from top to bottom through the notes.

Top NoteCrisp juicy apples give instant impact to the top notes which feel lovely and clean. This helps to set the scene for a fragrance we can relax with because the apple feels like a familiar scent.

Like citrus accords, apple dissipates quickly so you could hold onto this freshness a bit longer by adding additional fruit aromas for their crispness, or maybe a little more citrus to draw out the refreshing aspect of this fragrance oil.

Pear and melon also have this crisp freshness that would elevate it even further. Or you could try building the citrus notes, by using orange tones like Mandarin, Sweet Orange or Tangerine. 

Chamomile smells quite hay-like so that would work to try and emulate the effect of being in an orchard a bit more.

Heart Notes

This heart space is refreshing, with the cooling,  soothing lavender. That coolness is balanced by the pink peppercorns, which are not only spicy but also smell a little fruity. The peppercorns raise the heat to warm us through.

To be honest, it is a bit tricky to know what to add to such an unusual combination. I guess you could go more floral or go the other way and ramp up the spice. Of course, if you feel very adventurous you could try both! 

Should you want more florals, either keep it light or go super heady. Try rose geranium for an airy and complimentary accord. If you want to crank up the sensuous, how about some Jasmine, gardenia, or ylang ylang?

With regards to being more spicy, if you added orange aromas into the top notes,  cardamom, cinnamon, or nutmeg could all be really complimentary.

Base Notes

We could also build on those spicy heart notes by introducing deeper aromatics like cinnamon or clove.

I'd be tempted to add in resins like amber and frankincense here. Make the most of their sumptuous fragrances. 

Or try evocative oudh for the best aromatic embrace.

In summary

Got The Right Variation Of Fragrance Oil?

Start by checking the individual manufacturer's guidance for your diffuser for their specific guidance. Generally speaking, most aroma diffusers and candle burners can use the VINEVIDA Soaps & Candles fragrance oils, but please check before doing so. 

VINEVIDA Soap and candle fragrance oils are NOT FOR USE in cold air or nebulizing diffusers. For these types of diffusers, opt for the VINEVIDA DIFFUSER fragrance oils instead.

• Diffuser Blends fall into IFRA Category 12, where there are no restrictions.
• These diffuser blends are NOT designed for use on the skin.

The Recipes For Warming Diffuser Blends With NO. 103

When you first get a waft of NO. 103 - Rich Mahogany, brings an instant smile to your face. Its clever accords immediately make you feel comforted, warmed, and yet refreshed and revitalized too.

It has that gorgeous balance of light and delicate apples, entwined with lavender which are clean, crisp, and fresh. The fruity aspects of pink pepper bring warmth into the heart and it is rounded with the woodiness of full-bodied red mahogany. It has a wonderfully welcoming aroma but with a deeper sophisticated allure, which makes this an ultra-versatile fragrance oil 

I really like it because I think it is appealing to all is fairly genderless and can be used to create a fresh, friendly, and welcoming space for everyone. 

I wanted to create diffuser blends that instill you with a feeling of comfort and that will bring a smile to your face. Use these soothing, comforting, and warming diffuser blends to create pockets of vivifying aroma throughout your home, office, and workspaces. They are perfect for relaxing, reading a book, and curling up for a quiet night together. 

You Will Need

To make 10ml blends

• Small measuring jug
• Stainless steel spoon
• Small funnel
• 10ml dropper bottle
• Oil and waterproof label

Optional: Use a preservative of your choice,and  follow the manufacturer's instructions. 

Method

1. Measure out all of your oils and combine them together in the measuring jug.
2. Be sure to stir well to combine thoroughly.
3. Use a small funnel and decant into the 10ml bottle. Using a funnel will help you to keep the bottle clean and oil-free, which helps your safety label adhere more easily.
4. Label the bottle clearly, list all ingredients for safety.
5. Also clearly add a safety warning of ‘UNDILUTED OILS’.
6. Date the label clearly and calculate a 3-month expiry date from the date of production.
7. Naturally, you can add a preservative to elongate your expiry date.

How To Use

1. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for your diffuser.  
2. Dilute if guided to.
3. Do not use these diffuser blends on the skin.

Winter Warmer

It’s that time of the year when it gets super cold and it seems like winter will last forever.

It won’t. 

Until the rays of the sun start to strengthen and lengthen, use this diffuser blend for a little dash of comforting warmth. With a gentle floral heart and a resounding woody finish, it’s just sumptuous! 

• 7 ml of NO. 103 - Rich Mahogany fragrance oil 
• 3 ml of NO. 50 - Mahogany Teakwood fragrance oil 

Crisp, Fresh, and Reviving

I wanted to create a lighter blend that piled fresh, cleanliness into the top and heart notes for a revising and refreshing diffuser blend. It makes your home feel like home. Clean, fresh, comforting, and welcoming. 

The bright aromas of Lemon Eucalyptus and Sweet Orange compliment NO. 103 perfectly and really adds some vitality and verve to this revving diffuser blend. 

• 5 ml of NO. 103 - Rich Mahogany fragrance oil 
• 3 ml of NO. 25 - Clean Cotton fragrance oil 
• 20 drops of Lemon Eucalyptus essential oil (Eucalyptus citriodora)
• 20 drops of Sweet Orange essential oil (Citrus sinensis L)

Deep, Dark and Glorious

If you like a diffuser blend full of exotic mystery and depth, then this is the one for you. Heady, intoxicating, and rather glorious.

The precious aroma of Oud is unmistakable as it entwines around tendrils of Indian Jasmine and the powdery delights of Musk and Tonka Bean. 

• 5 ml of NO. 103 - Rich Mahogany fragrance oil 
• 2 ml of NO. 44 - Jasmine fragrance oil  
• 2 ml of NO. 74 - Mystic Oud fragrance oil 
• 1 ml of NO. 1205 - Inspired by: Oud Paris by Diptyque fragrance oil 

Warm Your Cockles

 

We have some weird sayings in the UK. When sitting around a fire, we would always say, “Come and warm your cockles”. But what does that actually mean? Where did it come from? Are we talking about warming up shellfish here, or not?

The saying it derives from is actually … “to warm the cockles of someone's heart”. It heralds from the Latin phrase ‘cochleae cordis’, which literally translates as “ventricles of the heart”.  Cockle was corrupted from the word ‘cochleae’, meaning ventricles. So when you invite someone to warm their cockles, you are inviting them to warm up their heart.

Let this diffuser blend ‘’warm your cockles’ beautifully.

• 3 ml of NO. 1113 - Inspired by: Iced Vanilla Woods by Bath & Body Works fragrance oil
• 2 ml of NO. 1104 - Inspired by: Buttercream Icing by Bath & Body Works fragrance oil 
• Nice & Spice

I do love a bit of warming spice. This was inspired by my love for chai, milk infused with black tea, and a whole host of aromatic spices. Black Pepper has a lovely warming aroma and compliments the orange tones of the Cardamom beautifully. 

The gorgeous bright apple zing of NO. 1 - Apple Cinnamon perfectly complements NO.103 and warms it through just a little more with its comforting and mouth-watering aromas. 

It’s wonderfully warming and spicy, just like a cup of wonderfully brewed chai. However, if you wanted to add the milky or creamy aspects of chai you could add in NO. 55 - Oatmeal Milk for its sweet, smooth undertones. Delicious! 

• 5 ml of NO. 103 - Rich Mahogany fragrance oil 
• 3 ml of NO. 1 - Apple Cinnamon fragrance oil 
• 30 drops of Cardamom essential oil (Elettaria cardamomum)
• 10 drops of Black Pepper essential oil (Piper nigrum)

Sensuous

You can take the aromas of NO. 103 and with a deft touch you can turn it into a luscious sensuous accord. You are starting with a comforting and revitalizing fragrance oil anyway and this is useful for making your partner feel at home and feel comfortable in the surroundings. 

Add Vanilla for that extra layer of familiarity and comfort and some of those intoxicating florals and you change this into something quite alluring and with an air of sensuous mystery to it. 

Using the essential oils also means you get the added benefits of their actions, ylang ylang and patchouli are well known for having aphrodisiac qualities. 

• 6 ml of NO. 103 - Rich Mahogany fragrance oil 
• 40 drops of Ylang Ylang essential oil (Cananga odorata)
• 20  drops of Patchouli essential oil (Pogostemon cablin)
• 20 drops of Vanilla Oleoresin (Vanilla planifolia)
