VINEVIDA’S Favorite Ways To Use Gingerbread Fragrance Oil

Gingerbread takes you back to your childhood with pages of beloved fairy tales, memories of steamy, fragrant kitchens and sticking Candy to Gingerbread… (and it sliding right off, if it was anything like mine).

It is a joyous fragrance oil that begs you to have childlike fun with it. Revisit your youth for imaginative and creative ideas to wow the family and kids this year.

With its heart of warm spices and smooth Vanilla finish, it is ideal to use in cold process soaps and shower gels. It can be beautifully blended with woods for a more masculine finish.

With sweet and spicy scent notes it is suitable for scenting most of the spaces in the home. Ideally suited to the kitchen diner and dining rooms over the Holiday season. You could use it as the base for creating a Signature Home Scent. Discover more about Signature Home Scents, in our article Layering Perfumes In The Home.

Gingerbread Fragrance Oil is ideal for wax melts, scented candles and reed diffusers. It can also be used in all types of candle burners.

Gingerbread fragrance oil is readily blended with our other fragrance oils and essential oils for a real scentsation. Its warm, spicy heart and creamy, comforting Vanilla finish is absolutely perfect for the busy rooms in the home like the kitchen.

Ideas Around the Home

Scented Bookmarks With Gingerbread Fragrance Oil

Scented Bookmarks

These are brilliant for popping into the kids fairytale books to keep track of where they have got to.

You can make paper ones or fabric ones - follow this week's tutorial in our blog article How To Make Scented Paper With Essential Oils and Fragrance Oils for the easiest way to do this.

Simply cut strips of stiff cardboard and decorate to suit your child and the types of books they like reading. Look for ideas on Pinterest to inspire you.

Alternatively, make really ornate ones from felt and add a pocket to pop in a wad of cotton with your Gingerbread Fragrance oil, don’t go mad though or your oils could cause the book to dampen and mold. Less is more guys!

I like these for the big kids in the family, embroidered and initialed corner bookmarks.

This project would fall in IFRA category 12 which carries no restrictions in the amount you use, but don’t use it as an excuse to go mad eh?

Our Favorite Recipe With Gingerbread Fragrance Oil

Vinevida Fragrance Oils are perfect for a huge array of innovative and creative projects.  We have the warming and whimsical Gingerbread Fragrance Oil this week and we will play to those descriptions with our projects.

First, we are going to make a Warming Hand Salve. It is a life saver if you are out in the cold, wet weather. Make the most of combining Gingerbread fragrance oils with essential oils for a truly heart and hand warming experience

Our second recipe is just uber whimsical and utterly joyful, we're going to make a Salt Dough Gingerbread House infused with that delicious Gingerbread fragrance. The kids will love it and it will enchant everyone.

Don’t let them eat it though!

Hand Warming Salve with Gingerbread Fragrance Oil

Hand Warming Salve

I love the warming nature of this Salve. It’s perfect if you are out in wet, cold and windy weather to keep your hands protected from elements. Give those precious hands some TLC this winter.

Make a few extra for wonderful Holiday gifts, especially for the gardeners, laborers and hard working hands in your life.

You will need:

    1. Digital scale
    2. Double boiler
    3. Stainless steel spoon/stirrer
    4. Small jars of salve tins
    5. Labels

Ingredients:

Optional - Preservative of your choice.

Safety:

    • Do not use this in the first 16 weeks of pregnancy.
    • Gingerbread Fragrance Oil in IFRA category 5C has safety dilution restrictions of 0.25% for this weight of product.

Method:

    1. Weigh your beeswax and Sweet Almond carrier oil.
    2. Place in a double boiler over a medium to low heat.
    3. Scrape the edges and stir to facilitate melting fully.
    4. As soon as the wax is fully melted, remove from the heat.
    5. Add the Gingerbread fragrance oil and the essential oils.
    6. Working quickly, pour into your jar or salve tins.
    7. Let it set and fully cool before adding any lids. This reduces the chances of mold, unless you choose to use a preservative.
    8. Label clearly, listing all ingredients for safety reasons.

How to Use:

    1. Do a 24-48 hour patch test - I highly recommend this with such potent essential oils.
    2. Use a small amount and work into your hands, avoid touching your eyes and mouth for the first few minutes.
    3. Enjoy the blissful warming sensation and protective layer.
    4. Store in a cool, dry place at an ambient temperature.
    5. Use within 6 months.

Salt Dough Gingerbread House With Gingerbread Fragrance Oil

Salt Dough Gingerbread House

I think this is a wonderful project to use your Gingerbread fragrance oil for. The kids will just adore this and it will be the fragrant envy of your neighbors.

If you're worried about how to cut it all out, I have even thought about that and I have found some delightful free patterns that you can use.

Gingerbread Fragrance Oil in IFRA category 12 has no safety dilution restrictions, but you do need to wear gloves while you make the dough. Add the fragrance oil to suit, but also use some water in the final mix to get the right kind of finish to your salt dough.

You will need:

    1. Mixing bowl
    2. Stainless steel spoon or stirrer
    3. Protective gloves
    4. Measuring cups
    5. Baking sheet
    6. Baking parchment

Ingredients:

To make a medium sized house:

Method:

    1. Preheat the oven to its lowest setting, if you set it too hot it will burn and be useless.
    2. Line a baking sheet with baking parchment.
    3. Pop your gloves on now.
    4. Combine the flour and salt in a large bowl and mix well.
    5. Slowly alternate adding both the water and the fragrance oil.
    6. Stir well until it comes together into a dough like ball.
    7. Transfer your fragrant dough onto a well floured surface and roll until the desired thickness, using guides help. I recommend using guides, as it helps when it is constructed, if your pieces are of a consistent thickness.
    8. Cut your dough into your chosen patterns. Follow the ones supplied or design your own.
    9. Very gently and carefully lift your finished pattern pieces onto the lined baking sheet. A cake lifter is ideal here, or even cut the pieces while they are on a very well lined baking sheet.
    10. Bake at the lowest temperature for 3 hrs or until the pieces are solid. Bear in mind the outer edges may feel solid but may still be soft inside, this is not ideal for construction. Pop a test piece in too so you can skewer that to fully test it without damaging any pattern pieces.
    11. Leave your pattern pieces to cool fully.

Decoration

    1. Since you are not going to be consuming this Gingerbread House you can construct this using glue and decorate it as you see fit.
    2. For a traditional look and finish use royal icing and candy decorations.

How to Use:

    1. Put in pride of place and let the aroma permeate the room.
    2. You can store it in a box with cotton wool dampened with Gingerbread fragrance oil to replenish the fragrance from year to year.
    3. Don’t drop the fragrance oil onto the dough, it will go soggy, buckle and may even mold.
